End of Semester Wrap-up!

Woah! It’s December!

Congratulations on the (near) completion of your first semester at UW–Madison! The Studio is lucky to have you here with us. It’s so fun watching you all grow in your creative practices, and we’re only halfway!

It was already months ago when you first arrived, and how weird is it to think back on events like the Studio Orientation or the ALPS workshop!

This all-day event encompassed a morning workshop designed for the new Studio residents to get to know each other and develop a sense of community, a catered lunch, and an afternoon introduction to The Studio's three creative spaces and community rules.

People you had just met are now your closest friends, and we hope that the relationships you are forming now will only continue to develop next semester and beyond.

Events like the Polaroid Workshop, Dwayne Holland’s dance workshop, and other seminar classes have taught you to be more open to exploration and given you an eye for the creation, teaching, and education surrounding art and the arts practice.

The year’s first Showcase was an amazing night of performances, from poetry to drumming to cello to an all out jam session. We were so impressed with the talents that were shared, and we can’t wait to see what you all bring to the upcoming edition of it, as well as next semester!

See a video recapping the event here!

During our first Showcase of the year, current residents shared their art - be it music, dance, spoken word, or visual art, everyone's work was welcomed in a supportive atmosphere.

Take a second now and think back on the semester, what you’ve learned in classes, in the seminar, and from the people around you. This community is powerful, and you have only just begun exploring your own creativity and the passions of those around you.

See you all next semester!
