One of the things an artist is always trying to figure out is: how do I get paid to do what I love? We’re glad you asked! By being a current Studio resident, you are eligible for awards and money for your art.
The Studio’s Creative Arts Award is open to current Studio residents, and the deadline has been extended to Applications are due March 28.
Residents who already applied may tweak their application and resubmit. Apply here: https://forms.gle/63pmLY4SAiE9nach6 (Links to an external site.)
Win $500 toward any art project that you wish to develop! Apply alone or as a team. Focus your project on research (what question is my art asking?) or service (who/what community is my art serving and how?). Two awards will be given out.
RESEARCH: Focus your project on a question you are pursuing through your artistic work. Examples could be: what are the possibilities of portraiture regarding the identity of the depicted subjects? How does the genre of comics drawing reveal the plasticity of time? Or any other question you’re currently curious about.
SERVICE: Focus your project on a community your project is serving. This can be a smaller, specific community of your choice, or a larger community, such as the campus community or the city of Madison. Define your community and your service well. Examples could be: a mural in the public space that addresses the specific needs of one community. Or: an online festival celebrating the contributions of a particular group. Or: a communal performance project, made with and for a particular community. Or any other service work your art may want to do!
Projects will be selected based on the following criteria: – Is the proposal well written? – Does the proposal reflect a project of artistic merit? – Does the proposal reflect a project of benefit to the campus and/or wider community? – Does the proposal reflect an awareness of social, cultural, and historical issues (such as race, class, gender, representation, etc.) that are relevant to the project?
So maybe you turn that project or proposal in!
With love, The Studio!
