Next semester, the UW–Madison Division of the Arts will welcome Ben Barson and Gizelxanath Rodriguez (the September 12 Lunch and Learn artists) as the Interdisciplinary Artists-in-Residence. They will facilitate an amazing class along with Peggy Choy as the lead faculty member.
The class, titled Artivism: Intercultural Solidarity & Decolonizing Performance, will explore the themes of the jazz opera, Mirror Butterfly: The Migrant Liberation Movement Suite. This interdisciplinary work is modular, and the goal of this course is to assist in producing a performance module that takes local issues and interpretations to the stage.
This class is an amazing, unique opportunity for students to explore the ways in which art can bring together marginalized communities and develop a plan for improving both the community and the world-at-large.
